How to Install Roller Blinds
Roller Blinds
Roller blinds make a great stylish addition to your home, whether you purchased a kit from a home improvement store or had your blinds custom made to match the décor of your home. Easy to install and simple to maintain, you are certain to find that rolling blinds are the ideal complementary window treatment for your home, or for your office! Installation of your rolling blinds is done in much the same way that installation of mini blinds.
Inside Mount versus Outside Mount
There are two primary methods of hanging your blinds on your selected window. The inside mount installs the blind’s brackets inside of the window frame while the outside mount hangs the brackets on the outside of the window frame. Your installation option depends greatly on your personal preference, as well as on the window the area is in; if installing your roller shade to control the natural light coming through the glass portion of a backdoor, you may find it best to use the inside mounting option. This will ensure that the mounting brackets lay flush with the door to avoid potentially damaging your walls or the brackets themselves when the door is opened.
Supplies
Before attempting the installation of your window shade you should ensure that you carefully measure your window to make sure that the roller blind you purchase is a perfect fit. Roller shade kits will contain all of the hardware needed to successfully install the product, including mounting brackets and screws. You will likely need a carpenters leveling tool, a cordless drill, and a pencil to carefully measure the correct location for the mounting brackets to ensure that you hang your shade straight.
Next Steps
- Fully extended, hold the roller blinds up to your window at the level you wish to hang them and, using your pencil, mark the appropriate position for the mounting brackets.
- Make use of your leveling tool to ensure that each bracket is at the exact same level; hanging your roller shades unevenly will cause you extra work when you need to go back to readjust the mounting brackets.
- Using your pencil you should mark the location for the mounting screws.
- Slowly, using your cordless drill, screw the brackets to the wall; once you have securely mounted them to the wall be sure to recheck them with your carpenters level to ensure you have them mounted correctly.
- You are now ready to install your shades; following the manufacturer’s instructions slowly insert your roller blinds into the mounting brackets.
Your new windows shades are sure to be a wonderful addition to the room you install them in!
